After Turtle WoW and Ascension
From classless to classic: pick the right class
Short answer
Start from the role you enjoyed on a classless realm. For tanking, a warrior; for healing, a priest; for ranged damage with pets, a hunter or warlock; for melee burst, a rogue; for flexible hybrids, a druid, paladin or shaman. Keldurn runs the nine original classes with 1.12 talents, so any classic class guide applies.
Key facts
| Tank | Warrior; druid as a hybrid option |
|---|---|
| Healer | Priest; also druid, paladin (Alliance), shaman (Horde) |
| Ranged damage | Mage, warlock, hunter |
| Melee damage | Rogue, warrior |
| Hybrid | Druid, paladin (Alliance), shaman (Horde) |
| Faction note | Paladins are Alliance-only and shamans Horde-only in 1.12 |
What changes when your class is fixed
On a classless realm you picked abilities freely. In 1.12, each class has its own toolkit and three talent trees, so the choice happens once, at character creation, and then through talents.
The upside is clarity in groups: everyone knows what a priest or a warrior brings, and pick-up groups form faster.
Good first picks for returning players
Hunters and warlocks level comfortably alone thanks to their pets. Warriors are the most sought-after tanks but need a little more care early on. Priests are always welcome in dungeons.
Remember the faction: paladins exist only for the Alliance and shamans only for the Horde in 1.12.
Talent basics for newcomers
You earn your first talent point at level 10 and one more each level after that. Each class has three talent trees; most players focus on one tree while levelling and pick up key talents from a second.
Changing talents later costs gold at your class trainer, and the price rises each time you reset, so plan a levelling build and keep it until you are close to 60.
Questions players ask
Can I change class later?
No. The class is fixed per character, but you can create more characters on the same account and faction.
Which class is easiest on a phone?
Hunters and warriors use fewer buttons in the early levels, which suits touch controls.
