Play WoW in your browser, with nothing to install

Keldurn is a WoW browser game in the literal sense: the classic world opens in a Chrome, Edge, Opera or Safari tab. You do not install a launcher, you do not need a copy of the original game and you do not need administrator rights on the computer. You sign in, pick your character and you are standing in Elwynn Forest or Durotar.

It is not cloud gaming either. Nobody streams a video of a remote computer to you: the game runs on your own device, so the picture stays sharp and you do not need a streaming plan. Your characters are saved on the realm, not in the browser, so you can close the tab tonight and carry on from another computer or your phone tomorrow.

The first visit takes a little longer while the browser gets the game ready. After that, entering from the same browser is much quicker. If you prefer a classic desktop program, an optional Windows client uses the same account and the same characters.

Free classic WoW: what is free, honestly

Playing Keldurn is free. There is no monthly subscription, no box to buy and no trial with a level cap. You can create an account, level a character from 1 to 60, run every dungeon, join raids and battlegrounds and never pay anything.

That is the difference from the official Classic realms, which need an active World of Warcraft subscription. Keldurn is an independent realm, so the only thing you need is a free Keldurn account.

What a free vanilla 1.12 realm offers

How to start in three steps

  1. Create a free account

Press "Create a free account and play" or continue with Google. You only need an email address, and with Google not even a new password.

  2. Choose faction, race and class

Alliance or Horde, eight races and nine classes from the classic era. Your character is saved on the realm, not in the browser.

  3. Enter the world

The first entry takes a little longer while the browser gets ready. From then on, logging in from the same browser is quick, on any of your devices.

WoW on your phone and tablet: iPhone, iPad and Android

Keldurn plays on phones and tablets from the mobile browser: Safari on iPhone and iPad, Chrome on Android. There is no app to install from a store. Touch controls sit on top of the classic interface so you can move, turn the camera, pick targets and use your action bars with your thumbs.

It is the same realm and the same character as on the computer. Many players quest on the phone during the day and raid on a PC at night. A recent phone gives the best experience; on a tablet you can also pair a keyboard or use a trackpad.

If you want to try it before committing, open the site on your phone, create the account there and log in to the same character later on a bigger screen.

How to play on an iPhone

Mac, Chromebook and modest PCs

On a Mac you play in Safari, Chrome or Edge, with no Boot Camp, no virtual machine and no Wine. On a Chromebook you play in Chrome, without switching on Linux or installing anything. On Windows any current browser works, and the optional Windows client is there if you prefer one.

You do not need a gaming PC. The 1.12 world was designed for the computers of its time, and most laptops from the last few years, including ones with integrated graphics, can play it. Keep your browser up to date and its graphics acceleration switched on, close tabs you are not using and lower the graphics quality in the game options if an older machine struggles.

Recent Firefox works on a computer as well. If something looks wrong, the most tested browsers are Chrome and Edge on Windows and Chromebook, and Safari on Mac and iPhone.

Which browser to use on each device

Any current browser with graphics acceleration switched on. This is the recommended combination for each device:

A vanilla 1.12 realm for players from closed servers

2026 was a hard year for classic players. Stormforge closed its realms on 14 May 2026 after a cease and desist from Blizzard, and Project Ascension shut down its WoW realms on 4 and 5 September 2026 after reaching an agreement with Blizzard. Their characters were not transferred anywhere.

Keldurn is not a copy of either server. There are no custom races, classless characters or invented zones: it is the original 1.12 world at x1, with the classes, talents, quests and dungeons you remember. What changes is how you get in, from a browser tab or a phone, plus a short list of conveniences that save waiting rather than effort.

Everybody starts fresh at level 1. If you are coming with a guild or a group of friends, pick the same faction and you can level together from the first evening.

What the game is like: blizzlike 1.12 with a few vanilla+ conveniences

The rules are the ones of patch 1.12: experience at x1, the level cap at 60, talents and gear as they were, Alliance and Horde on one PvP realm. Starting zones such as Dun Morogh, Elwynn Forest and Durotar, dungeons such as the Deadmines and the Scarlet Monastery, and raids such as Molten Core and Onyxia's Lair are all there.

On top of that sits a short list of changes that remove dead time without taking away the feeling that you earned your character:

  • Cross-faction dungeon groups Alliance and Horde players can team up inside dungeons, so a group fills faster.
  • Dungeon finder Queue by role and the group meets at the dungeon's meeting stone.
  • Shared auction house Both factions buy and sell in one market.
  • Dual specialization Keep two talent builds, for example one to level and one for dungeons.
  • Battlegrounds Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley, with Call to Arms events that rotate between them.
  • Gurubashi Arena A chest appears in the Stranglethorn arena every three hours and only one player walks out with it.
  • Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza Every Sunday afternoon, the first angler to hand in forty Speckled Tastyfish wins.
  • Holidays and fairs The Darkmoon Faire, Hallow's End, Winter Veil and the rest of the classic calendar, plus experience events at +50 % from time to time.

What Warcraft Alex thought of Keldurn

Warcraft Alex makes short videos about classic World of Warcraft. He played Keldurn in his browser and summed up what he found in under thirty seconds: the 1.12 world, nothing to install and a realm with people to play with. We show his review here with his permission.

Nothing loads until you press play. The captions are part of the video, so you can watch it with the sound off.

Questions players ask

What is Keldurn?

Keldurn is a free, independent MMORPG realm compatible with the 1.12.1 era of World of Warcraft. You play it in a web browser on a computer, phone or tablet, or with an optional Windows client, on one persistent realm at x1 rates.

Is Keldurn really free?

Yes. There is no subscription and no game to buy, and you can play from level 1 to 60 without paying.

Is Keldurn reliable? Will my characters last?

Your characters are saved on the realm, not in your browser, so clearing the browser or switching device never touches them. The realm runs every day as one persistent world; after a restart for an update you log back in to the same character. Realm news is posted on the Keldurn Discord.

Is Keldurn safe?

In the browser nothing is installed: the game runs inside the tab with the browser's own protections, and the site uses HTTPS. Keldurn never asks for the password of a Battle.net or any other game account, so do not reuse one.

Is it the official World of Warcraft?

No. Keldurn is an independent project compatible with the 1.12.1 era and is not affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment. You do not need a Battle.net account or a copy of the game.

Can I download Keldurn?

You do not have to. The browser version needs no installation at all. If you prefer a desktop program, there is an optional Windows client that uses the same account and characters.

Does it work on Android, iPhone and tablets?

Yes. Use Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone and iPad. Touch controls let you move, turn the camera, target and cast, and recent devices give the smoothest experience.

Does it work in Firefox?

Recent Firefox works on a computer. The most tested browsers are Chrome, Edge and Opera on Windows and Chromebook, and Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad, so try one of those if anything looks wrong.

How do I create an account?

Press "Create a free account and play" on this page, enter an email address and a password, or continue with Google in one click. You go straight to character creation.

What language is the game in?

The website and guides are in 22 languages. In the game you can choose English or Spanish for the interface and quest text, and the realm chat is international, with English as the common language.

How many people play? Is the realm alive?

Keldurn is a live, persistent realm with players from Europe and the Americas online around the clock. The quickest way to meet them is the Keldurn Discord, where groups, guilds and events are organised.

Which version is it, and is it up to date?

The content is that of patch 1.12, the last one before The Burning Crusade, with the level cap at 60. The realm itself is maintained continuously, with fixes and conveniences added in regular updates.

How long has Keldurn been open?

The realm opened to the public in 2026 and runs every day as one persistent world. Your characters stay on the realm whichever device you log in from.
