WoW private servers in 2026, compared
Short answer
2026 changed the map. Turtle WoW, Stormforge and Project Ascension closed after legal action, while Kronos V, OctoWoW, RavenCraft and fresh Wrath realms opened. This directory compares the major servers that remain, by expansion, rates and language, with one guide per server and its sources. Keldurn, this site, is listed too.
Vanilla 1.12
The original game before The Burning Crusade. Blizzlike realms keep the 2006 rules; fun realms speed things up.

Classic+ and Turtle successors

How to choose a server
Start with the expansion you want to play, then the pace. x1 means the original speed, where levelling is a large part of the game; higher rates move you to the endgame faster but empty the levelling zones. Then check the community language, because grouping is easier in a language you enjoy using.
Finally, look at how long the project has existed and how it is funded. Long-running realms with no paid gameplay advantages are the safest place to invest months of play.
Why so many servers closed
From September 2025 Blizzard sent legal notices to several large projects, and in 2026 that led to the closure of Turtle WoW, Stormforge and Project Ascension's World of Warcraft realms. Servers with custom content and large audiences were the most visible targets.
None of the closed projects transferred characters. If you are choosing a new home, assume your characters stay where they are made, and prefer a realm whose rules and funding you understand.
How this directory is checked
Every server page lists its sources: the server's own site and at least one independent listing, checked on the date shown. We do not publish population figures, because most are self-reported and cannot be verified from outside.
The status column shows whether each server's website answered our automatic check in the last few hours. A responding website does not guarantee the game realm is up, and a slow website does not mean the realm is down.
