Your first day on a new realm
Short answer
Agree on a faction with your friends, pick a class and two gathering professions, sell grey items for training money and keep your bags free for quest items. Join a group for elite quests and your first dungeon. On Keldurn, all characters on an account share one faction, and the Global channel opens at level 5.

Mistakes that cost hours
Spending early money on gear instead of training slows you down more than any item helps. Buy abilities first; gear comes from quests.
Filling your bags with low-value items forces trips back to town. Keep a slot or two free for quest items.
Set up for the week
Two gathering professions, such as mining and herbalism or skinning and herbalism, turn every trip into income. The Auction House is shared by both factions, so there is always a buyer.
Add the friends you meet to your friends list. Early groups often become your first guild.
Settings worth changing on day one
Put your main attack and your most used ability on the first action bar slots, then add food and bandages. Turn on enemy nameplates if you find targets hard to track in groups.
Set a key or button for your map and quest log. On a phone, check that the touch layout feels comfortable before your first dungeon, not during it. Small adjustments now save frantic searching for a button in the middle of a fight.

Can I have Alliance and Horde characters on one account?
Not on Keldurn. Each account plays one faction, so choose together with your friends.
When can I use the Global channel?
From level 5 on Keldurn.
