What is vanilla 1.12?
Short answer
Patch 1.12, released in August 2006, was the last major update to the original game before its first expansion. It contains all original content: every raid up to Naxxramas, the battlegrounds Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley, and the honor system. Most vanilla realms, including Keldurn, recreate 1.12 because it is the complete version.

Why realms recreate 1.12 rather than launch-day vanilla
Launch-day content was incomplete: several raids, battlegrounds and class changes arrived over two years of patches. Patch 1.12 is the most complete and balanced snapshot of that era.
Many realms still release content in phases to recreate the original progression, while others open everything at once.
What 1.12 feels like to play
Levelling is slow and social, travel takes time, and dungeons need a real group. Talents come one point per level from level 10, and gear from dungeons and reputations carries you to raiding.
On Keldurn you get that experience at x1 rates, playable in a browser as well as on Windows.
The patches that led to 1.12
The original game grew through regular content patches. Dire Maul arrived in 1.3, the honor system in 1.4, the first battlegrounds in 1.5, Blackwing Lair in 1.6, Zul'Gurub in 1.7, the Ahn'Qiraj raids in 1.9 and Naxxramas in 1.11.
Patch 1.12, known as Drums of War, added cross-realm battlegrounds and closed the era with the full set of content in place.
Questions players ask
Is 1.12 the same as Classic Era?
No. Official Classic Era runs Blizzard's modern Classic client and rules; 1.12 realms recreate the original 2006 patch.
Does 1.12 include Naxxramas?
Yes. Naxxramas arrived in patch 1.11 and is part of 1.12.
