Blizzard's official Classic Era and Hardcore realms use its modern Classic client and require a World of Warcraft subscription. A 1.12 vanilla realm such as Keldurn recreates the original 2006 patch rules, is free and, in Keldurn's case, runs in a browser. Hardcore adds permanent death. Why some players choose the official realms

Official realms come from Blizzard, use its modern client and share its account system. If you already pay for World of Warcraft, Classic access is included.

Hardcore suits players who want every death to matter; a single mistake ends the character.

Why others choose a 1.12 realm

A 1.12 realm recreates the original patch rules rather than the modern Classic ones, and independent realms are usually free. Keldurn adds something no official realm offers: playing from a browser tab, including on a phone, a Mac or a Chromebook.
