Choosing a vanilla server in 2026
PvP or PvE realm: how to choose
Short answer
On a PvP realm, players of the other faction can attack you in contested zones; on a PvE realm, fighting other players is opt-in. PvP realms add tension and memorable fights, PvE realms offer calmer levelling. Battlegrounds exist on both. Keldurn runs a single PvP realm, so choose it if world PvP sounds like fun rather than a chore.
Key facts
| PvP realm | Open world PvP in contested zones |
|---|---|
| PvE realm | PvP only when you flag yourself |
| Both | Battlegrounds and honor |
| Safe areas | Starting zones and your faction's cities |
| Keldurn | One PvP realm |
What a PvP realm is like day to day
Most of the time you quest as usual. Every so often a player of the other faction appears and you choose to fight, flee or call friends. Those moments are what many veterans remember most.
Grouping with a friend removes most of the frustration of being attacked while levelling.
Choosing for your group
Ask your friends how they feel about being attacked while questing. If most enjoy it, a PvP realm keeps the game exciting; if not, a PvE realm fits better.
Keldurn runs one PvP realm, so every fight in the world counts, and you can play it from a browser or a phone.
If your friends disagree
Groups often split between players who love world PvP and players who dread it. On a PvP realm, levelling together solves most of the worry: a group of three rarely gets bothered, and when it does, it can fight back.
Battlegrounds give the PvP fans organised fights on demand, so both sides of the group get what they want.
