Stormforge: closed in May 2026
Short answer
Stormforge shut down on 14 May 2026 after receiving a cease and desist from Blizzard in April. For more than four years it ran Netherwing for The Burning Crusade, Frostmourne for Wrath of the Lich King and Sheilun for Mists of Pandaria. Its characters were not transferred anywhere, so former players have to start again elsewhere.

What Stormforge was
Stormforge was known for polished scripting across three expansions: Netherwing for The Burning Crusade, Frostmourne for Wrath of the Lich King and Sheilun for Mists of Pandaria. It ran for more than four years and was often recommended to players who wanted a stable, carefully maintained realm.
In April 2026 it received a cease and desist from Blizzard and announced its closure. The realms went offline on 14 May 2026, within days of Turtle WoW's end.
What former players should check
- Use a new password wherever you sign up next
- Be wary of sites that claim to be the new Stormforge
- Pick the expansion first, then the realm and its rates
- Expect to start at level 1 wherever you go
Where former players can go
Netherwing players looking for The Burning Crusade can look at Rising Gods. Frostmourne players can find Wrath on Warmane, ChromieCraft or Whitemane's fresh Frostmourne realm, which shares only the name. Sheilun players can try Tauri for Mists of Pandaria.
If you are willing to go back further, Keldurn runs vanilla 1.12 at x1 in a browser, so you can try it in a few minutes without downloading a client.
Questions players ask
