OctoWoW: Turtle-style Vanilla+ after Turtle's closure
Short answer
OctoWoW is a community-run Vanilla+ server that appeared after Turtle WoW closed in May 2026. It runs on a Turtle-derived 1.12.1 core, continues the Mysteries of Azeroth content with playable High Elves and Goblins, and offers three x1 realms: N'Zoth (PvE), C'Thun (hardcore PvE) and Y'Shaarj (PvP).

Where OctoWoW comes from
When Turtle WoW shut down after Blizzard's lawsuit, its custom content stayed in players' memories. OctoWoW started in 2026 from Turtle's 1.17.2 patch, with the stated goal of restoring everything up to Turtle's last patch, 1.18.1, and then carrying the story on.
The team says it is not Turtle's former staff and keeps its contributors anonymous, even from each other. That is unusual, and it leaves players with very little information about who runs the servers.
What you get
OctoWoW keeps Turtle's additions: playable High Elves and Goblins, new race and class combinations, extra professions and reworked dungeons and raids released in phases.
All three realms run at x1: N'Zoth for normal PvE, C'Thun with hardcore rules where death is final, and Y'Shaarj for PvP, which opened on 30 June 2026.
How to start on OctoWoW
- Download the client and launcher only from octowow.st, never from mirrors
- Pick a realm: N'Zoth for PvE, C'Thun for permanent death, Y'Shaarj for PvP
- Use a password you have never used anywhere else
- Try a High Elf or Goblin if you never played Turtle's races
Because the team is anonymous, avoid paying for anything until the project has proven it will last.
Weigh this before you invest time
Turtle's court settlement bars its operator from handing code or assets to others, and successor projects built on Turtle material carry real legal uncertainty. Enjoy OctoWoW if you miss Turtle, but keep your expectations about its long-term future modest and do not spend money you would regret losing.
If you want the original 1.12 world rather than Turtle's version of it, Keldurn runs blizzlike 1.12 at x1 in a browser, with nothing to install.
Questions players ask
Is OctoWoW the same team as Turtle WoW?
The OctoWoW team says it is not Turtle's former staff.
Can I bring my Turtle WoW characters?
No. Turtle's characters were not transferred anywhere when it closed; everyone starts fresh.
