Ashen WoW: vanilla patch by patch, at x1
Short answer
Ashen WoW is a blizzlike vanilla realm that opened on 6 September 2025 with one PvP realm at x1 rates. It replays the original patches from 1.2 to 1.12 over two years: Blackwing Lair opened in June 2026 and Zul'Gurub in August 2026. It has no pay-to-win shop.

Patch by patch, the way 2004 to 2006 felt
Most vanilla realms run the final 1.12 rules from day one. Ashen WoW instead started at patch 1.2 and moves forward on a published two-year timeline, so class balance, itemisation and content change over time, much as the original game did.
That makes the early months tougher: some talents and items are weaker than their 1.12 versions, and raids arrive one at a time. Blackwing Lair opened in June 2026 and Zul'Gurub in August 2026, with Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas still ahead.
Rules and community
The realm keeps x1 experience and drops, with occasional optional double experience events. It adds a cross-faction auction house and mail, a small change that keeps trade moving on a mid-sized realm. The project promises no boosts and nothing in its shop that sells power.
The community is English-speaking and organised mostly on Discord, where the team posts patch dates and maintenance windows.
Who it suits, and how it compares with Keldurn
Ashen suits players who enjoy progression for its own sake and want the old balance changes. It suits less if you want every raid available now or cannot run the 1.12.1 Windows client.
Keldurn runs the full 1.12 content at x1 on a PvP realm and opens in a browser, including on phones and Macs. If patch-by-patch history matters most to you, Ashen is the closer match.
Questions players ask
Which patch is Ashen WoW on now?
It follows its own two-year timeline from 1.2 towards 1.12; Blackwing Lair (June 2026) and Zul'Gurub (August 2026) are already open. Its site shows the current phase.
Is the auction house shared by both factions?
Yes. Ashen WoW uses a cross-faction auction house and mail system.
