Firestorm: modern expansions on a private server

Modern expansions are the hard part

Emulating a recent expansion is much harder than vanilla or Wrath, because the game systems are larger and change often. Firestorm is one of the few projects that tries. Dornogal runs The War Within and has followed it to patch 11.2, reached in May 2026; expect some systems to work less smoothly than on the official game.

Battle for Azeroth Reforged opened on 29 August 2026 at x2, a fresh start for players who prefer that expansion.

Legacy realms

Firestorm keeps older realms for Wrath of the Lich King, Mists of Pandaria and Legion, so a single account covers several eras. The project began in France and still has a strong French-speaking community alongside English.

The team has said it intends to support Midnight; treat that as a plan.

How to start on Firestorm

• Create an account on firestorm-servers.com
• Follow the site's download guide for the realm you pick
• Choose Dornogal for The War Within or BfA Reforged for a fresh start
• Check the known issues for your class before you raid

Compared with Keldurn

Firestorm suits players who want modern World of Warcraft systems for free. Keldurn is the opposite end: vanilla 1.12 at x1, with the original talents and 40-player raids, playable in a browser.
